Gustav Doré

Gustave Doré was a French Illustrator in the XIX century, creating vivid paintings, etchings and illustrations for the most influential works of fiction: from the light-hearted tall tales of Don Quixote - to the Bible, Dante's Divine Comedy, works of Lord Byron, Edgar Allen Poe, Samuel Coliderige - and many others.

Aside from fiction, Doré had illustrated "London: A Pilgrimage", which had vividly captured the atmosphere of the time.

Most of Doré's artworks are wood engravings - the artist works the image into the block wood, which is then covered in ink and printed onto paper.
