The Wild Unknown Tarot by Kim Krans is one of the most influential tarot decks of recent years. All 78 cards were drawn by hand in ink and watercolor, replacing the human figures of classic tarot with animals and natural motifs – even the court cards show animals instead of people. The pared-back black-and-white look is lifted by targeted touches of color, and the symbolism stays close enough to the traditional structure to work with common card meanings while leaving plenty of room for intuitive reading. The deck was first self-published in 2012; the edition recorded here, from 2016, was released by HarperOne as a keepsake box set with a hand-lettered, illustrated guidebook.
